Bird Lovers on Tour

b113-1

Do you consider yourself an eco-traveler? Do you love nature? Do animal and bird sightings have you reaching for your camera to capture the perfect shot that isolates a moment in time?

I can still remember seeing a Great Horned Owl perched on a low tree branch as I was pulling into my driveway many years ago. I stopped, opened the sun roof, and gazed in awe at this majestic bird. Perhaps because they cannot turn their eyes but rather must turn their head, he seemed unperturbed by my presence below. After what seemed an eternity, he swiveled his head a full 270 degrees without moving his body as if putting on a show for my benefit. I would have applauded but I didn’t want to disturb the moment. Eventually, something caught his attention and he ascended from the branch, an impressive wing span carrying him deeper into the woods.

At Collette Vacations there are an array of vacation opportunities that feature birding tours and leisurely bird sightings as groups explore destinations like Australia, Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras, Peru, the Amazon, Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, the Galapagos Islands and Newfoundland, Canada. Now I admit that I can barely tell the difference between a hawk and a heron, but here are some of my favorite destinations that just happen to be a bird lover’s dream yet are also designed to appeal to less experienced nature lovers like me:

  1.  Find the blue-footed booby in the Galapagos.

  2. Be amused by the Magellanic penguin of Chile.
  3. See Machu Picchu’s Torrent duck.
  4. Visit one of the world’s largest flamingo nesting grounds in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.
  5. Keep your eyes open for the colorful scarlet macaw in Costa Rica.
