1st Oberammergau tour departs today
This has been a long time coming. A lot of hard work went into Collette’s 2010 Passion Play push. Congratulations to everyone involved. The Collette staff, our agent partners and group leaders have all been working towards this day for over a year.
The inspiring story of the Oberammergau Passion Play began in 1634 when villagers vowed that if God were to spare them death from the Plague, they would perform a play every ten years depicting the life and death of Jesus. Not a single person fell victim to the Plague after the promise.
Amazingly that tradition lives on today. And I have a hard time sticking to my New Year’s resolution to drink less coffee and get more exercise.
I had a great time at the Passion Play with my family in 1990. I’d heard about the story and the event, seen the photos, spoken with our Tour Managers who’d experienced it before, spoken at length with the Oberammergau tourism board… NOTHING compared to experiencing it with my family by my side.
If you’ve never been to the show before and are planning to go this year, I can only say – I’m envious of you. You get to experience the magic for the first time. You get to watch the most timeless story come to life, with much expectation, but little preparation for how amazing it really is. You get to be taken by surprise. Wonderful surprise. For that, I envy you.
I hope all our Oberammergau travelers are ready! And cheers to those already on the road for the first show TODAY. It’s an exciting time.
We’ve sold more tickets this year to the show than ever before. This truly is the year of the passion. We still have some great offers in place as Collette is one of the few tour operators that got hold of some extra tickets. So if you’ve been thinking about it – I say go for it.
